Things Paige Morrison will never understand about Mirabelle, Florida:

Why wearing red shoes makes a girl a harlot
Why a shop would ever sell something called "buck urine"
Why everywhere she goes, she runs into sexy-and infuriating-Brendan King

After losing her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, Paige has no choice but to leave Philadelphia and move in with her retired parents. For an artsy outsider like Paige, finding her place in the tightly knit town isn't easy-until she meets Brendan, the hot mechanic who's interested in much more than Paige's car. In no time at all, Brendan helps Paige find a new job, new friends, and a happiness she wasn't sure she'd ever feel again. With Brendan by her side, Paige finally feels like she can call Mirabelle home. But when a new bombshell drops, will the couple survive, or will their love come undone?
My Review

I just loved this book!  I have had this book for years but failed to take the time to read it until now and I must that I am a little mad at myself for not picking it up sooner.  Once I started reading this story, I was hooked and did not want to put it down and found myself reaching for it every chance I had.  I am so glad that I finally decided to give this one a try.

Things have not been going great for Paige.  She has lost her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend in short order.  As a result, she was forced to move back in with her parents who now live in the small town of Mirabelle, Florida.  It has not been an easy transition and she feels like most of the town is against her.  Her vehicle breaks down after a horrible interview and the town's handsome mechanic comes to her rescue.

Brendan has lived in Mirabelle all of his life and knows how hard some of the residents can be on new residents like Paige.  He hasn't had things easy in his life but he has a great support system including his grandparents, his sister, and a great group of friends.  He decides to help Paige out just a bit and he also plans to spend a little more time getting to know her.

I really liked Paige and Brendan.  I thought that both of these characters felt very real, like someone I wouldn't be surprised to meet.  They were fun together and I loved the chemistry between the pair.  This was a pretty low drama story for much of the book and I really enjoyed just spending time with these two as they fell in love.  There is some excitement before the book is over but I must say that I liked the parts of the book that just focused on these two getting to know each other.  Paige and Brendan were not perfect and they made some mistakes but I think that helped them to feel more authentic.  The secondary characters were very well developed and I appreciated what they brought to the story.

I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance.  I thought that this was a really well-done romance filled with wonderful characters and a lot of sparks.   I would not hesitate to read more of this author's work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley.
About the Author

Shannon Richard grew up in the Florida Panhandle as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music.

She graduated from Florida State University with a BA in English Literature and still lives in Tallahassee where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She's still waiting for her Southern, scruffy, Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she's a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

  1. sounds like your damsel in distress versus white knight story, but something tells me that Paige isn't your normal damsel

  3. I was keeping an eye out for this review after you mentioned it in your Sunday Post. Brendan sounds like the type of hero I would love. Sounds like he has a few scars, but survived with the help of familial support, which I love. And, helping out a down-on-her-luck heroine just makes him shine even brighter.

  6. I'm so glad you got to read it and found it to be so authentic. Sometimes books fit at one time when they don't at another so don't be too hard on yourself. Fantastic review!

  9. This sounds good. Sometimes you just need a low conflict, low angst story. And how wonderful that a long-neglected book finally came to the front and lived up to your expectations.

  14. It sounds like this was a lovely romance book. I think when it comes to romance realistic characters who you can truly root for are so important. And I always love reading about characters like Paige who are going through a lot but can perservere and make it to where they want to be.
