This week's neglected book

City of Miracles by Robert Jackson Bennett
Series: The Divine Cities #3
Publication Date: May 2, 2017
Publisher: Broadway Books
Revenge. It's something Sigrud je Harkvaldsson is very, very good at. Maybe the only thing.

So when he learns that his oldest friend and ally, former Prime Minister Shara Komayd, has been assassinated, he knows exactly what to do — and that no mortal force can stop him from meting out the suffering Shara's killers deserve.

Yet as Sigrud pursues his quarry with his customary terrifying efficiency, he begins to fear that this battle is an unwinnable one. Because discovering the truth behind Shara's death will require him to take up arms in a secret, decades-long war, face down an angry young god, and unravel the last mysteries of Bulikov, the city of miracles itself. And — perhaps most daunting of all — finally face the truth about his own cursed existence.

Why did I add City of Miracles to my bookshelf?

I have had a print ARC of this book since well before its publication date.  I really enjoyed the first two books in the series so can someone please explain to me why this book is still sitting on my shelf unread?  I even bought a kindle copy of this book in case I felt like read it that way.  I promise that I will get to this one at some point.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. Two editions of the book and it's still unread? That is a shame, especially as you enjoyed the previous books in the series.

  2. maybe you can compare the two to see if the author sneakily changed anything?

  5. I've heard a lot of people gush about the world building in this book and how beautifully written it is but it sounded too wordy for me personally! It gets good reviews so I hope you do well with it!

  6. If a series is spread apart I've been known to not finish it. I guess I just lose interest. Although, I never felt that way with Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson. I'm always chomping at the bit for their newest! Hope you love this one. I've never heard of it. I need to join up here one week, I have so many on the backlog!

  8. If I could explain your reticence to read this one, I could explain why I do this sort of thing, too. LOL
I've been making a list for part of the COYER challenge this summer and I've put several books from series that I haven't managed to read and I hope the challenge helps to motivate me. :)

  12. I do that all the time
I'll read the first two books in the trilogy then have a hard time picking up the last one. Probably separation issues

  16. I am not familiar with this book, but I know all about leaving those series festering on my shelf. If it's the last book, I think you should really try to read it. You liked the first two, why not see how it ends?

  17. I've done that before, where I've never finished a series with no idea why. I hope you enjoy once you get a chance to tackle this one.
