Books from the Backlog #42

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks.

If you would like to join in, please feel free to enter your link and link back to this post, then spend some time visiting some of the other posts.

This week's neglected book

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Series: Scoundrels #3
Publication Date: October 13, 2009 (First Published 1995)
Publisher: HarperCollins
They call him many names, but Angelic isn't one of them . . .

Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters"—and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He's determined to continue doing what he does best—sin and sin again—and all that's going swimmingly, thank you . . . until the day a shop door opens and she walks in.

She's too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world . . .

Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she's going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him—and with him, her family and future—means taking on the devil himself, she won't back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible, and the person who needs the most saving is—herself!

Why did I add Lord of Scoundrels to my bookshelf?

I actually picked this book up as a Kindle freebie back in July 2011.  I have heard fantastic things about this book so I have no idea why I haven't made the time for it yet.  It is the third book in the series but I think I will be fine reading it as a stand alone.  I can't believe how long I have let some books sit on my Kindle.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  2. I have a ton sitting on my e-readers! I'm going through them to take a new list of what is there and then I can see what needs to be added to my Goodreads TBR that I've missed! After that I can look each one up and decide what I'm keeping!

    2. I guess I can't love them all. LOL But I would be interested in reading it again to see if my opinion has changed.

  6. It's so darn easy to buy a book for your Kindle and then forget about it. It's not staring you in the face begging you to read it. I really need to come up with a better way of tracking Kindle reads so if you have a system, let me know.

    1. I am thinking that I need to come up with some kind of system but don't know what yet. I found that I have more than one kindle copy of several books so I definitely need some kind of plan.

  10. I have so many books on kindle that I just haven't got to! I bet this would be a good audio book. Historical usually have fun accents. Maybe they have the audio version at the library? I usually get to books I don't have time to squeeze in by listening to them.

    1. It is a great cover. I am not positive that this is set in the Regency era but I do see that some readers on Goodreads have shelved it that way.

  14. It looks great. I haven't read any of her books, but I agree that usually one can jump into a historical romance series out of order and do all right.

    1. And, hopefully my link works to my Tumblr post. MacAfee has decided that Tumblr is unsafe and I can't even get it to set as a safe site or safe page even the one I created just last night. Grrr.
Anyway, sorry for the hassle if you end up trying the link and it won't work.

    2. No problems with your link, Sophia Rose :)

I remember that a few reviews said it works great as a stand-alone so it should be okay to read on its own.

  15. Do you think you tend to read more backlog books of this feature?
    I have a good amount of backlogged books specifically from NetGalley that I plan on tackling this year. I really hope to get that percentage up. I have books in general on my tbr list from 2012 so I understand how you could have one from 2011. Time and new books can get away from you (;

    1. I have read a couple of the books that I have featured since I started doing these posts. It is a nice way to give some love to the books I haven't had time for though.

    2. That's great! I really want to read backlogged books. I think looking at them all brings them up in your mind more. That way you might choose them to read next. Great idea (:

  16. I read very little historical romance. I don't like the typical imbalance in the choices of men and women. Of course, it doesn't seem to bother me in historical fantasy although women are often shown as strong or in some cases equals as it is fantasy. I hope you enjoy it. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. I like to read a mix. I don't read a ton of historical romance but I do enjoy it from time to time.

  17. Yes, books like this usually stand well on their own. I haven't heard of this one. I enjoy historical romance from time to time. I can be really picky about it--more so than other types of romance. I am not sure why. I tend to do better with historical mysteries.
