Stacking the Shelves #151

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
Did everyone have a good Christmas?  I had a nice low key holiday.  My husband had to work the weekend before Christmas and on Christmas Eve so I was able to stay home and entertain myself around the house.  It was fabulous!  Honestly, just being able to stay home for 3 days straight without a long list of things I needed to get done was the best gift.  On Christmas, we celebrated with my mom, my daughters, and my sister's family.  Today we are having our Christmas celebration with my husband's family and then the focus will move on to New Years.  We actually have tickets to a St. Louis Blues hockey game New Year's Eve so I guess we will actually be going out for a change this year.  I am not sure how I feel about it but my husband is excited so I am happy to be his date.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a wonderful and safe New Years!

Books Added

True Places by Sonja Yoerg (Kindle First Reads)
Catwoman by Sarah J. Maas (Kindle Purchase)
His Fair Assassin Trilogy by Robin LaFevers (Kindle Purchase)

I decided on Sonja Yoerg's True Places as my Kindle First Reads book for December after realizing she also wrote All the Best People which I really enjoyed.  I have slowly been collecting the books in the DC Icons series so I had to grab Catwoman when I saw it for sale for only $1.99.  I jumped on the His Fair Assassin Trilogy when I saw it was on sale for only $2.99.  I have read and LOVED the first two books in this series and am eager to dive into the third.  Sadly, the sale prices ended quickly and these prices are back to their original spot.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown (Audible Purchase)
Kill Creek by Scott Thomas (Audible Purchase)

I decided to grab Iron Gold and Kill Creek during Audible's current 2 for 1 sale.  I am considering a few other books but am a bit short on credits so I haven't decided yet.

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn (Won @ Waves of Fiction)
Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly (Publisher - For Review)

I was excited to win a copy of A Curious Beginning from Rachel @ Waves of Fiction.  I have read and enjoyed this book but didn't have a copy of it so I am thrilled to have it on my shelves.  I also received Song for a Whale for review from the publisher.  I really like the sound of it and I want to read more middle-grade books so I am happy to have a copy - plus that cover is gorgeous.

The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne (Kindle Purchase)
A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir (Kindle Purchase)
Between Shade of Gray by Ruta Sepetys (Kindle Purchase)

I just can't resist a good sale!  I couldn't resist The Heart's Invisible Furies for $2.99 since I have had my eye on this book since it was published.  I already had the first 2 books in Sabaa Tahir's series so I grabbed A Reaper at the Gates when it went on sale for $2.99.  I was lucky enough to see Ruta Sepetys a few years ago and was very impressed.  I was happy to pick up Between Shade of Gray for $2.99 this week.  Sadly, these were all one-day sales and these prices have gone back up.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  3. Nice! Glad you had a nice break in between the holidays! I'm hoping we're having a low key New Years too. We might be taking down on Christmas decorations, which is always a sad time, but they have been up since the second weekend of November, so we've had them up for over a month. But it always makes me sad to put them away! Lol.

Nice new reads! I still need to read Catwoman myself! Hope you enjoy all the new lovelies!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. My break was leading up to Christmas. Sadly, I had to go back to work the day after Christmas.

  4. I went to the Columbus Blue Jackets vs Toronto Maple Leafs last night. Even though CBJ lost, it was still fun. My family are all several states away, so it was just me, Hubs and the dog for Christmas. It was nice to have a low key day. Happy New Years

  5. Yay! I’m glad you had a relaxing Christmas. Enjoy the hockey game. Ooh, you got Song for a Whale! That’s my most-anticipated middlegrade book for next year. I hope it’s good.

  7. I'm with you. A few days to myself is worth more than some of the best material gifts out there. Ah, sweet of you to go be a date when its New Year's Eve. I've never been to a hockey game though I've hosted enough hockey play off parties. :)
Nice job catching the sales and some good giveaways. I heard of Song of a Whale involving a deaf girl, I believe, and it sounded good. I love LaFevres' series, too. I bought two books during Amazon's Digital Day sale yesterday, but didn't do the Audible sale though I was tempted.

Have a wonderful New Year's, Carole!

    1. Quiet time at home to catch up on a few things is my favorite way to spend a day. Song of a Whale does involve a deaf girl and I think it sounds like a great read.

  10. Yes I had a similar lovely Christmas and am happy to be getting to things I wanted to do for awhile. There have been a bunch of good sales yet. I got a couple on the Audible 2-1 but will probably get a few more. I just got my credits from my annual plan so I have lots. I'm so careful I have some left over from the year too. I already had Iron Gold but I'll look at Kill Creek. I also chose True Places for my Kindle first read. I need to start putting those into my reading schedule. I think I have only read ONE from last year. I have lazy plans again to read all day on New Year's Day. Anne - Books of My Heart

  12. I love a quiet Christmas and this year no traveling was involved so it was nice! Glad you had a nice Christmas too! And the Blues game sounds fun! Hope you have an awesome New Year's Eve. :)

  13. My Christmas was nice and quiet too. The day before, Noche Buena, was filled with family, little kids, and late night church. Hockey on New Year's Eve - be careful and have fun!
Grave Mercy was a really wonderful read. I'm planning on rereading it and finishing the series next year. I just got Iron Gold for my brother on Christmas. I've only read Red Rising but he has read the whole trilogy and really liked it. Song for a Whale looks really cute. I got two books for Christmas - one is a budget friendly cookbook (my brother knows me well) and a Japanese one.

I remember getting great 2-for-1 offers when I had an Audible membership, in fact so many audiobooks I got swamped! That was a while ago though so maybe I'll think about restarting this year

  16. A low key Christmas sounds lovely. That was kind of how mine was. I don't really have plans for New Year's Eve, so we'll see what happens. Might see a movie or something. lol Have fun at the hockey game!

  20. It is so nice to have time away from the chaos of every day and work! Glad to hear you had a quiet Christmas, and I hope you have fun at the game with your husband.

I read the first two books of His Fair Assassin too, but never did get to the third one. Must do that soon. I'm happy A Curious Beginning found its way onto your shelf, being a fan! Yay!

  21. A few days to yourself with no massive chores id definitely the perfect Christmas gift! My Christmas gift to myself was spending all Christmas day in pajamas. It was heaven! I loved A Curious Beginning and that's a series I really plan on continuing with this year. I can't believe it's taken me this long to read book 2!

  22. 'The Heart's Invisible Furies' was probably my favourite book of 2018. It takes a lot to actually make me cry at a book and I was literally sobbing at this. Hope you enjoy!
