Stacking the Shelves #149

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This wasn't a great week.  I was really busy.  I work 40 hours per week and when the nights are jam packed with events, it really is too much for me.  Monday night my daughter had a jazz concert that forced us to leave the house just as soon as I got home from work and we didn't get home until 9:00 pm.  Tuesday night we went to a Blues hockey game.  We have had these tickets for a very long time but I kind of regretted buying them with how crazy the week's schedule turned out to be.  Thursday night my daughter performed at the orchestra concert.

I also had some work stress to deal with.  I had some issues with a co-worker a couple of weeks ago and things really got out of hand this past week.  It was so bad that on Tuesday, I packed up my stuff and left about halfway through the day.  I guess I was taking a risk but the owner was gone and I refuse to allow anyone to treat me as poorly as I was being treated.  I did talk to the owner and things are better but it is still very awkward at the office.  I think I am going to stay in the office and work next week while everyone else goes to lunch for the holidays.  I work in a small office with only 4 employees so it won't be too big of a deal anyway.

I am so far behind with commenting and I am sorry.  I plan to work to catch up this weekend.  My older sister and her family are in town to celebrate Christmas but I should be able to work in some computer time.

Books Added

The Winters by Lisa Gabriele (Won @ Night Owl Book Cafe)
Wicked Little Secrets by Susanna Ives (Kindle Freebie)
The Christmas He Loved Her by Juliana Stone (Kindle Freebie)
A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas by Kim Redford (Kindle Freebie)
Windwitch by Susan Dennard (Kindle Purchase)
Maybe Now by Colleen Hoover (Kindle Freebie)
The Squirrel on the Train by Kevin Hearne (Audible Purchase)
The Purloined Poodle by Kevin Hearne (Audible Purchase)
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (Audible Purchase)

I was really excited to win a copy of The Winters from Sophia Rose over at Night Owl Book Cafe. I think the book looks great and I cannot wait to dive in.  I found Wicked Little Secrets, The Christmas He Loved Her, A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas, and Maybe Now listed as free and couldn't help but one-click.  I decided to also grab Windwitch since it is on sale for $2.99 and I have a gift card balance to use.  Audible had a sale this week and I felt like I needed to add a few things to my Audible library.  I picked up The Squirrel on the Train and The Purloined Poodle for $3.47 each and Jurassic Park for $4.20.  I am pretty happy that I didn't add any books with review commitments to my pile this week.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  2. I'm actually pretty worried about you at the moment because you sound tired and stressed every week on this roundup. I had to give up work because of stress as I was having issues with a co-worker who was always on my back and it just wore me down over time. I don't want to see that happen to you. I also worry about this hectic schedule you have at night as you barely seem to get a chance to relax and chill out. Your health is the most important thing so please take care of yourself first and foremost! Running yourself into the ground mentally and physically won't help anyone so look after your own health first. *hugs*

    1. It has been pretty stressful lately. I just keep telling myself that I am at the end for all of my daughter's school functions. Once I ship her off to college, I think my life should calm down a bit. Work trouble is the worst.

  4. Sorry about the stress. Annoying coworkers are the worst, especially in a small office. It’s impossible to get away from them. I hope this week is better for you!

  6. Hugs, lady! Hope you can start de-stressing soon. Busy schedule and obnoxious coworkers and all. Yay, the book got to you. Isn't it pretty in person? I was pretty good about the sales and freebies this week, but that's because I went crazy last week. :)
Enjoy your sister's visit and early Christmas with family. No worries if you need to skip blog visits for a while. Allow yourself to take a sabbatical while real life is crazy. :)

  8. I love all those books and hope they help. Thanks for the tip about Maybe Now being a freebie. I have Maybe Someday on audio already so that series should move up my list. I love the Juliana Stone series related to the Christmas story. I hope things only get better from here. I wish I could have gone to the jazz concert. I need to see if the high school here does those. Anne - Books of My Heart

  11. I hope you are able to have a breather soon with how busy and stressful things are in life. I am sorry to hear that you are having issues at work. Hopefully, they will fully end at some point. It's for the best that you left when you did because if you felt you had to leave, even for a fraction of the day, it was definitely a situation you needed to get out of. Regardless, I am very sorry.

That being said, wow. That cover for The Winters is positively breathtaking.

  16. Sorry you are having work stress. It's hard to work all day especially with the stress and then do all of the things at night. I hope you get to enjoy some time away over the holidays.

  18. It's so stressful to have issues with a co-worker, especially since we spend so much time with them. Sorry to hear things got out of control! I'm the situation is resolved or at least becomes bearable.

I listened to The Purloined Poodle sometime ago, but I'm not sure I listened to The Squirrel on the Train. I must check, because I love Oberon and Atticus! Was a little disappointed by how things ended in the last book, but I keep crossing my fingers that Kevin Hearne will write a novella to correct things.

  19. Oh sorry work has been so rough. Smaller offices are nice at times but it does get hard when you don't get along. Glad you stood up for yourself though. Hopefully things slow down for you soon. Looks like you've got some awesome books to get you through the holidays!

  24. Christmas period time is always busy when it comes to events and then with work stress on top of that I can see how it would be really difficult! I do hope you get some down time and relaxing time even with friends and family around!! It's so important to have that balance and those restful periods and you should enjoy the holiday.

I also got Maybe Now when it was free. Couldn't help that either ;)
