Stacking the Shelves #147

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
Busy, busy, busy was the theme of the week.  The week started out with it being my turn to take my daughter to her jazz group which meant that within an hour of getting home from work I had to get out of the house and spent my evening at the rehearsal.  I did get to stay at home Tuesday night and worked really hard to get caught up on comments on the blog that evening.  Marching Band awards were Wednesday night and my daughter picked up a nice variety of award to add to her collection.  On Thursday night my daughter needed to be downtown for a school event and since I am a mean mother that won't let her drive downtown, I ended up spending a large chunk of the night fighting rush hour there and back.  My daughter's first college audition was Friday so I took the day off work.  It is a two-hour drive each way with a 6-hour stay at the college.  It was a really informative day and I have a really good feeling about the school but I wore the wrong shoes and have terrible blisters on my feet as a result.

I am spending today at the Missouri All-State Band auditions.  It is a two-hour drive each way and the even will last most of the day.  Last year, I was able to use the wifi at the event so I hope to use my time waiting to get caught up with all of the comments that I missed this week.

Books Added

Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis (For Review)
Montana Creeds: Dylan by Linda Lael Miller (Kindle Purchase)
Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen (Kindle Purchase)
Inseverable by Cecy Robson (For Review)
Magic Triumphs by Ilona Andrews (Audible Purchase)
Storm Glass by Jeff Wheeler (Audible Purchase)
Just Do It by Donald Katz (Audible Purchase)
The Year We Hid Away by Sarina Bowen (Audible Purchase)
The Year We Fell Down by Sarina Bowen (Audible Purchase)
Louisiana Longshot by Jana DeLeon (Audible Purchase)

This is not as bad as it looks.  Really, it's not!  There are only 2 review books and most of the other books were either free or extremely inexpensive.

I love Jill Shalvis so I was really excited to get a copy of Playing for Keeps to review.  I picked up a couple of kindle books on sale this week.  Montana Creeds: Dylan was on sale for $2.99 and Goodbye Paradise was only $0.99.  I jumped on the chance to review Inseverable since I loved the last audiobook that I listened to by this author.  I received a weird email from Audible that gifted me a credit.  I am not sure how that happened but I am not complaining about it.  I decided to use in on Magic Triumphs because I know I will be listening to this book as a re-read.  When I saw that Storm Glass and Just Do It were free I added them to my Audible library right away.  I received a $5 coupon from Audible as a reward for buying 4 books during their last sale so I used it to purchase The Year We Hid Away, The Year We Fell Down, and Louisiana Longshot and only had to pay $0.97 after using the coupon.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  1. That sounds like such a tiring week Carole! I hope you get a bit of rest on Sunday. I just couldn't manage that schedule. I'm tired enough on a normal day! I hope you managed to get some good reading in!

  2. That's definitely a busy week! And I don't think you're a mean mom for not letting her drive herself downtown. I'm an adult and I HATE IT! I hate going down there and basically avoid it if at all possible. Like I stopped applying for jobs that sounded halfway decent because I didn't want to drive down there in that mess! So I think you're a very good mom for taking her! ;)

Nice new reads too! Quite a few new to me ones but a few are familiar. I hope you enjoy them all and good luck at today's event!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. Even if I was okay with her driving down there, I am not sure that I want her trying to park our truck :)

  6. Congrats on your daughter's award and it must be reassuring to feel good about her potential college.
On the 'wrong shoes' thing, that reminded me of The True Picture by Alison Habens. Have you read it? ( http://litflits.blogspot.com/2016/07/the-true-picture-by-alison-habens.html )

  9. Wow! You are super busy. I remember having to schlep my daughter and her portfolio all over for her review. I hope your daughter did awesome! You have the new Heartbreaker Bay book. I am super jealous. I am falling behind on the series too, because I cannot get approved for those books and my eLibrary hasn't been getting them. Hope you love it!

    1. I signed up for the blog tour for the new Shalvis book so that made it easier to get my hands on a copy. It is always disappointing when the library doesn't have the books you want to read. Can you request that they make a purchase?

  14. You've done a lot of road tripping lately!

Yes, I did my recent Kate Daniels re-read lately via mostly audio. I'm sure I'll also be purchasing this one eventually.

    Thanks for sharing!

  15. Oh I hate it when I have uncomfortable shoes on a long outing! Sounds like a busy week, Carole!

I re-read Magic Triumphs by audio, too, while on a long road-trip with my husband. It was great the 2nd time around, I love Renee Raudman's narration. She is Kate Daniels to me. Hope you love it again, too! :)

  23. Oh no blisters! That sucks. My mom wouldn't allow me to go downtown by myself either which I'm just fine with her driving me. I'm pretty terrified of getting lost downtown.
I got a couple of library books I want to read this month: To Kill a Kingdom and Save the Date.

  24. I'm always getting blisters. They are the worst! Have you ever heard of mole skin? You cut it to fit where you want it to go and it can cover areas on your feet that might otherwise get blisters. It helps pretty well!
I really want to read Goodbye Paradise. That's awesome it was on sale!

    1. These blisters were on the bottom of my feet. Kind of strange. I have had these shoes forever and wear them all the time so I was kind of surprised by the whole situation.

  25. So many music related events and occassions to keep you busy this week. I am always impressed with how much you manage to do in a week and still keep reading throughout it all as well. Also, so many audiobooks!! You're going to have a lot of fun listening to these new reads.
