Stacking the Shelves #146

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
What a week!  I hope that everyone out there that celebrated Thanksgiving this past week had a fantastic holiday.  I had the week off from work and am dreading going back tomorrow.  It was a busy week.  During my week off, I helped move some furniture for my oldest daughter, went to the doctor and had some blood work and other tests done, took my dog to the vet, had a birthday, and hosted Thanksgiving.  I was born on Thanksgiving and my birthday actually fell on Thanksgiving this year which doesn't happen all that often.  We did way too much online shopping and even ventured to a store or two Friday afternoon but now I need to go back to acting like the poor person that I am.

We got some bad news on Friday.  The vet called after running my oldest dog, Cookie's blood work to let us know that she is in stage 3 kidney failure.  I got some training from the vet to give her a shot twice a week for the next month or so.  She is 13½ so the news isn't completely unexpected but it still makes me very sad to see her decline and not be able to do a whole lot about it.

Books Added

Seven Stones to Stand or Fall by Diana Gabaldon (Audible Purchase)
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden (Audible Purchase)
Besieged by Kevin Hearne (Audible Purchase)
Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy (Audible Purchase)
Whispers at Seaside by Addison Cole (For Review)

I bought 4 books from Audible's sale this past week and should get a $5 coupon at the end of the month for doing so.  I grabbed Seven Stones to Stand or Fall as soon as I saw it offered since I have a slight fascination with all things Jaime Fraser.  I adored The Girl in the Tower and love to re-read via audio so I added that one to my collection.  I am slowly making my way through Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series so I was pleased to see Besieged as part of the sale.  I already have the second book in Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy's Him series so I am happy to have the first book, Him, so I can get started with it.  I received Whispers at Seaside for review and was thrilled to notice that Andi Arndt and Sebastian York narrate this one.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  2. So sorry to hear about your dog! We were told last month that our dog had "spots" in his liver when he had an MRI done. He's 13 too. He's still pretty chipper. He's always had hip problems and we expected that to go out on him at some point, but he's doing well in that area. We have to give him medicine as well and it seems to help him. He has a bit more pep than he did before. And yay for scoring shopping deals!

Nice new reads too! I hope you enjoy them all!

  3. Sad about your senior pup, but glad you can give extra love especially now. Yay for a week off, but I know what that means when it comes to catch up.
Nice stack from the sales especially the fun audios.
Yay for a good birthday and Thanksgiving.
    Have a good week, Carole!

  4. Happy belated birthday! I am sorry that your celebration comes with a side of bad news. Watching our loved ones age is never easy. ((HUGS)) Sebastian York is such a good narrator with an amazing voice. I don't normally take such notice, but I remember looking him up after listening to an Emma Chase book. He was incredible.

  9. Happy Birthday! I'm sorry to hear about Cookie. We still miss Gina.

I also got some things at the Audible sale. I LOVE the audio of Girl in the Tower. I thought about Him and I could still get it. I also thought about Beseiged but they have it at the library so I am going to try to listen to the series there.

I hope this week goes well! Enjoy your new books. Anne - Books of My Heart

  18. I hope you love The Girl in the Tower! I thought it was better than The Bear and the Nightingale, and that's saying something because I really liked that book. I can hardly wait to read The Winter of the Witch. 📚✨

  19. Oh wow! It's amazing that you were born on Thanksgiving and that everything managed to line up in this year so your birthday fell on the same day again. I hope you had a brilliant birthday <3 And wow, you managed to pack so much into a single week. You really were the most productive!!
