Stacking the Shelves #144

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life

This was another busy week at my house.  On Monday, my daughter had a band audition and while we were a little disappointed by the results she did an alternate spot in the Jazz Band and qualifies to try out at the state level.  It was a good life lesson if nothing else.  I was excited to get the chance to vote with my daughter for the first time.
On Wednesday, my daughter had a jazz performance which was nice but ended up taking the entire evening.  On Thursday, I spent the evening trying to catch up on comments and a few other things on the blog.  I have to say it can be a bit overwhelming to try to catch up once you do fall behind!  On Friday, my oldest daughter stopped by for a nice visit so we have a very full week.
My daughter had her senior pictures taken last weekend and I think that they turned out really nice.  I am so happy that we were able to get all of the wonderful colors in most of the shots.

Books Added

A Conspiracy in Belgravia by Sherry Thomas (Audible Purchase)
The Green Mile by Stephen King (Audible Purchase)
Out of Reach by Kendall Talbot (Kindle Purchase)
The Good Ones by Jenn McKinlay (NetGalley)
When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton (NetGalley)

I picked up A Conspiracy in Belgravia and The Green Mile during the 2 for 1 sale over at Audible this week.  I bought Out of Reach for $0.99 when I noticed it was on sale after seeing Sophia Rose's review for the second book in the series.  I have been loving Jenn McKinlay's contemporary romances so I requested The Good Ones as soon as I saw it listed on NetGalley.   I loved Next Year in Havana so I am really excited to get an early copy of When We Left Cuba.

I hit the local dollar store once again and went a little nuts.  To be fair, my daughter was with me and added some of these books to the pile herself.  She is such an enabler.  It is hard to pass up nice books for only $1 each.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Nice! This is the perfect time of year for pictures when we have just enough fall colors going on before a cold snap comes and takes it all away! Lol.

Wow! That's a lot of new reads too! Lots of new to me ones from the looks of it! Hope you enjoy each and every one!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I don't think that the leaves will be on the trees for much longer so the timing was perfect for pictures.

  2. You definitely kept busy, Carole. Tough miss on the band spot for your daughter, but glad she has something to fall back on and still enjoy her music. Fun that you got the pictures done and a visit with your other daughter.

Oh, I got When We Left Cuba, too. Yay for the Conspiracy in Belgravia and Out of Reach. Hope you love them both. :)
Now, that is a great pile. I would totally go nuts on books at a dollar store so no judgement here. :)

  3. I’m currently behind on comments and feeling completely overwhelmed. It’s so easy to fall behind and so hard to catch up. I hope you like The Green Mile! It’s my favorite King book.

  4. Those photos are excellent and I love the fall colors. Shortly I will be going outside to finally deal with the deluge of leaves and branches in our yard.

I love hearing about Jazz band. I was in Jazz band in High school and college but I just enjoyed it and wasn't all that good. I played alto sax and baritone, as well as flute, clarinet and piano. I think I am even busier now I am not working; there is so much I want to do and I can't figure out why I am not getting it all done!

It's great to buy books on sale, at the dollar store, or Goodwill. I have trouble though because once I own them I don't feel the rush to read them since I can always read them. If it is an ARC or library, there's a deadline of sorts.

    1. The books that I own do tend to take a backseat to all of the books that I get to review. I am trying to find a better balance though.

    1. I agree, Blodeuedd! It takes a lot of guts to get up in front of people and perform for an audition. I think that the judges got it wrong in this case but we are very proud.

  7. Nice haul! I am eagerly anticipating your thoughts on When We Left Cuba. I thought the first book was great. That's so nice that you had both your girls with you this past week. I am looking forward to next Saturday, because my daughter is coming home for the first time since June.

  10. I struggled to master the recorder! I hated the blasted thing! I didn't do much better with the clarinet as I have short fingers!

    1. I remember the recorder. Those were the days. My daughter is very talented on her trombone so it is nice to hear her practice these days.

  11. Our local dollar stores don't carry books unfortunately. But there is a thrift store in Utah called Deseret Industries, and there are many locations so I just go and grab some romances. Paperbacks are .75 cents and hardcovers no more than $3 dollars. So this past week I grabbed 10 books for 9 dollars. A fabulous deal and all in almost new condition which is a plus.

  17. It's definitely tough to get back up to date when you fall behind on the blog. You just have to kind to yourself, I think, and not stress too much. Love your daughter's photo - how fun! And the Dollar Store has some great books sometimes.
