Stacking the Shelves #143

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This was a pretty normal week for me.  Sunday was quiet and I loved every minute of it.  I was only home for an hour on Monday before I had to take my daughter to her jazz group which took up the rest of the night.  My husband and I went to the story Tuesday evening to stock up on candy for Halloween.  My husband was on candy duty on the front porch while I tried to keep my three dogs under control in the house on the actual holiday.  I think that having Halloween in the middle of the week wore all of us out because everyone seemed very tired at my house later in the week.

The plans for this weekend are to do a little grocery shopping (okay a lot of grocery shopping since we are out of everything right now), Senior pictures for my daughter, and we hope to get some much-needed rest.

Books Added

Gutter Medicine: Twenty-six Years as a Firefighter Paramedic by Rober Huder (For Review)
The Mad Mick by Franklin Horton (For Review)
The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan (Audible Freebie)
Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (Kindle Purchase)
Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson (Kindle Purchase)
Night Shift by Charlaine Harris (Kindle Purchase)
The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May (Kindle Purchase)
The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason (Kindle Purchase)
The Spiritglass Charade by Colleen Gleason (Kindle Purchase)
The Beast by J.R. Ward (Kindle Purchase)
Elena Vanishing by Elena Dunkle (Kindle Purchase)

It looks like I went a little crazy this week.  It is quite possible you will see some of these books featured in a Books from the Backlog post at some point in the future :)  I did get a couple of audiobooks for review this week.  Gutter Medicine and The Mad Mick both look really good and I am looking forward to them.  I am not sure when I will get around to listening to The Ruin but I couldn't pass up the freebie!  I loaded up on a bunch of sale books this week.  I picked up Words of Radiance and Oathbringer for $2.99 each.  I couldn't pass up Night Shift for $1.99 since I have the other two books from the series.  The Vanishing Throne was only $0.60 and it completed the series in my Kindle library.  I have really enjoyed Colleen Gleason's writing this year so I couldn't pass up The Clockwork Scarab for $0.60 and The Spiritglass Charade for $0.99.  I have quite a few books from J.R. Ward's series on my Kindle so I decided to add The Beast for $1.99.  I haven't heard of Elena Vanishing before but for $0.60 I decided to take a chance.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

    1. It looks like a great series and I already had the first one so I couldn't resist!

  2. I couldn't live in the US! Halloween would drive me nuts as the last thing I'd want to do is be forced to hand over sweets to gangs of kids under threat of damage to my car or house if I don't-not my idea of fun! I love Franklin Horton's Borrowed World series-need to catch up a bit on it before I read his other work!

    1. It's really not like that at all. Some house give out candy and some don't. Kids know to only go to the houses that have the porch light on and we have never had anyone acted anything by thankful. I like to see the smiles on the little kids faces. The dogs just make it more of a challenge.

  3. We didn’t get any trick-or-treaters, so I just ate the candy and watched scary movies. Back when I had 3 dogs, it was very hard to keep them from mobbing the poor kids when I opened the door. Handling the kids and dogs was a multi-person job.

  4. I also got the Ruin which looks really good. I also got one audible daily deal. And I bought 2 on the "Halloween" sale at Audible.

My daughter wanted me to get more candy but we didn't have that many, so sadly, we are eating it. I was at work so she was the greeter. Anne - Books of My Heart

  5. I grabbed that Audible freebie too (I always do, if I'm aware of them, because one day I might want to listen). We don't get trick or treaters where I live, too far out in the country. At least I don't have candy around the house and no chaos for the dog. It would be fun to see the kids though.

    1. I always try to grab the freebies too. I might want to listen to them someday you never know. My daughter has made good use out of some classic novels that I got for free so it has worked in the past. It is fun to see the kids all dressed up!

  6. We never really got any trick-or-treaters over the years, and with my daughter grown and gone, Halloween is a non-event for me. I did eat more sweets this week than I have all year, thanks to my co-workers brining their leftovers to work. Your daughter was an adorable unicorn, by the way. So many new books! I hope you enjoy them all.

    1. I live in a big subdivision on one of the few streets with sidewalks so I get a lot of kids at my house. It is fun to see all the costumes.

  7. Our neighbors across the street are the only ones who trick or treat so that takes no time at all for them to come over around 4pm and the rest of the night is mine.

Haha! I hit the same deals you did, but I didn't get the Sandersons. Yeah, sometimes I know I'm grabbing a book I won't read/listen to for a while, but the price makes it worth it.

    1. You had a quick night then! I have a really hard time passing up some of the sale prices when it is a book or series that I really want to read.

  8. We didn't pass out candy this year, but did go trick-or-treating. It's always so crowded, but fun to see the creative costumes people come up with. It is hard to pass up the sales, isn't it? I hope you enjoy all your new books!

  12. Nice book haul. I went a bit over my allotment this week. LOL We don't get anyone for Halloween. Too far out, I guess. I did buy some candy though. Just one small bad for me and my son. Enjoy your new books and relaxing weekend.

  13. We run out of candy every year at our house. I usually buy 150 full size candy bars and when there gone the lights go off.

Great selection of books you added this week, I hope you enjoy them all.

  18. I love the Midnight Texas series. So basically we just sit outside and hand out candy because yes, all that up and down is hard on the pups (and their parents).

  19. We didn't get any trick or treaters which was good because we didn't have any sweets either! I haven't been an Audible member for a while because I wasn't listening fast enough to keep up with the credits. They give out good freebies too
