Books from the Backlog #32

This week's neglected book

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones

Series: Charley Davidson #1
Publication Date: February 1, 2011
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
First Grave on the Right is the smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper.

Charley sees dead people. That's right, she sees dead people. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

This is a thrilling debut novel from Darynda Jones, an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense.

Why did I add First Grave to the Right to my bookshelf?

This is another series that I have collected but failed to actually start reading.  I bought the first book for my Kindle in June 2012 and then added other books from the series during various sales over the years.  I now own the first 10 books in the series so it is really time that I get to reading.  I actually own the audiobook versions of the first two books and may go that route.  I want to get this one read and off the backlog by the end of the year!

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  6. I'm amazed you have ten books from a series that you've not yet started. I envy such efficiency!

    1. I don't know about efficiency...I think it is more like book hoarding.

  8. Yay! Good pick, Carole. I had a blast with this series and yes you want to have Lorelei voice Charley. :)

Oh hey, you could join Shari and I for our annual series challenge starting in January to read through these. :)

    1. I do love this narrator. I wanted to wait until I finished the Mercy Thompson series since she has been Mercy in my mind :)

I may just do that Sophia Rose. This series would work well for the challenge since it has 13 books so it would be about a book a month.

  9. I enjoy these. I own a few paperbacks, I own some ebooks. I have some ARCs I have some audiobooks. But yes audiobooks are the BEST! Lorlei King is amazing. There is so much humor in these books with a side of sexy. I'm rereading #2 as part of the Reread tour and I have number 13 to review which is releasing in January. I'm up to date through 12 though.
