Stacking the Shelves #139

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This has been one heck of a week (or closer to a week and a half).  I was so busy this past weekend that I didn't get the chance to prepare my Stacking the Shelves post which is why you are seeing this on a Monday.

Lots of stress on the work front over the past week and a half.  Things happened at work that led to my decision to resign from my position.  I was told that I would be needed until Wednesday but then I was free to go.  I have got to tell you guys that a big part of me was really looking forward to spending a few months home with my dogs and my books while we navigate all of these college decisions for my daughter.  But then Wednesday came and apologies were made and I was asked to reconsider my resignation.  In the end, I did decide to stay on the job.  It was a really stressful situation but I am not sorry that I stood up for myself and I am incredibly thankful that my husband supported my decision at every step.
My oldest daughter came to the game to support her sister on Senior Night.
Marching band has been exhausting.  We had a competition the last weekend of September and ended this past week with another game and competition.  Friday night's game was senior night and it was nice to see all of the seniors being honored at the game including my daughter.  The band came in second place at the September competition and took first at the one the past weekend.  These competition days are all day events which can be exhausting but the kids did seem to be having a lot of fun.
An abundance of trophies were won by the band - my daughter is in the middle of the photo
My reading has fallen way behind (are you even surprised?) but I am sure it will pick up again soon.  I have fallen a bit behind on comments and the blog but do hope to start catching up very soon.

Books Added

Bearskin by James A. McLaughlin (Kindle Purchase)
Royal Heir by Ruth Cardello (Kindle Unlimited)
One Good Dragon Deserves Another by Rachel Aaron (Audible Purchase)
Last Dragon Standing by Rachel Aaron (Audible Purchase)
Straight Outta Fangton by C.T. Phipps (For Review)
The Fallen by David Baldacci (Audible Purchase)

A rather well know fact about me is that I buy books when I stressed.  This also applies when I feel ill, when I am tired or bored, or really just most days.

I thought Bearskin sounded really good and I couldn't resist the $1.99 price.  I picked up Royal Heir from Kindle Unlimited since I have been enjoying the series.  This book was okay but I didn't like it nearly as much as the first two from the series.  I received a couple of coupons from Audible so I decided to pick up One Good Dragon Deserves Another and Last Dragon Standing when I found that I could add the audio for $1.99 each if I borrowed the book from Kindle Unlimited.  I am excited that now have the entire series ready to go.   I was asked to review Straight Outta Fangton by the author and I am looking forward to it since I have enjoyed his work in the past.  I picked up The Fallen as an Audible Daily Deal since I have enjoyed previous books from the series.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  2. Yay for standing up for yourself! Sounds like it all worked out. Love the pictures and I can tell you're so proud of your daughter. I remember band days and yep, they can be exhausting - for kids and parents both. Hope you have a more relaxed week ahead.

    1. I wonder myself at times. Of course, my schedule is not anywhere near as busy as my daughter's - I can't keep up with her.

  10. Way to go you for sticking to your principles. If things are changing then maybe it will settle down at work. You can always resign later. My second job was stressful a few times and I was thrilled to get a transfer to a new building and new boss who ran things differently.
Ah, the gals look sweet together. Glad the sisters support each others' milestones.

Haha! I totally stress buy books. Looks like you picked some good ones that you'd have gotten anyway.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  12. I hope the next week and really months are less stressful. I'm considering work changes myself.

Oh I want that Rachel Aaron series. I'm going to have to look into it. This is the last month of the KU special and no I haven't read a thing with my 3 months at $.99. I have a long list though. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. The funny thing is that I was basically happy in my job. I would rather be home but it isn't a terrible job. I will not be treated poorly by anyone though.

I need to see if there are any other books that I can borrow just so I can buy the cheap audio before I cancel my Kindle Unlimited.

  13. It's good that you stood up for yourself and you should never regret doing so. Proud of you! In the end, I am glad you got to stay at your job and all, but it's good that they recognise your dissatisfaction and have been made aware that actions can have consequences as well. It sounds like it has been quite the week.
