Books from the Backlog #6

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks.

If you would like to join in, please feel free to enter your link and link back to this post, then spend some time visiting some of the other posts.

This week's neglected book

Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Series: Graceling Realm #1
Release Date: October 1, 2008
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight—she’s a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king’s thug.

She never expects to fall in love with beautiful Prince Po.

She never expects to learn the truth behind her Grace—or the terrible secret that lies hidden far away . . . a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.

With elegant, evocative prose and a cast of unforgettable characters, debut author Kristin Cashore creates a mesmerizing world, a death-defying adventure, and a heart-racing romance that will consume you, hold you captive, and leave you wanting more.

Why did I add Graceling to my bookshelf?

I actually have two copies of this book.  I have a hardcover copy that I picked up at a book fair which has been on my bookshelf for quite a few years.  I also had a digital copy that has sat on my kindle since December 2011 that I caught on sale for the bargain price of $0.99.  This is a book that I have heard some great things about and I am interested in reading but I have never made it a priority for some reason.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I started reading this but stopped as it didn't seem to appeal to me. To be fair to the book, it wasn't really my genre to start with!

  9. Oh man, Graceling could be one of my Backlog picks, too. My SIL recommended it and I bought it, but it is setting on my shelf for years now. I've read a different book by the author so I know I like her writing, at least.
