Stacking the Shelves #90

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality.

This was a hard week.  Last Saturday, my daughter's boyfriend's father died unexpectedly.  I didn't expect to be at a funeral during the week when I wrote my last Stacking the Shelves post.  It has been heartbreaking.

My daughter's marching band performed at the football game Friday night and we have another competition today.   It looks like it is going to be another busy weekend.

I did continue with regular blog posts this week but I had a few nights that I just didn't have it in me to spend a lot of time dealing with bloggish things.  Please bear with me as I work to get caught up.

Books for Review
Paradox Bound by Peter Clines (Blogging for Books)

I liked the The Fold by this author and I thought that the premise of this story sounded great so I am looking forward to diving into this book.

Books Won
Cover of Night by Laura Griffin (Goodreads Giveaway)

This is an author that I have been wanting to try so I am thrilled to get the chance to read this one.  I hadn't won a Goodreads giveaway for years but this is the second one that I have won in just the past couple of week.  I like the new kindle giveaways since the book just shows up in your account when you win.

Books Purchased
Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris (Kindle Purchase)
Day Shift by Charlaine Harris (Kindle Purchase)
The Witches of New York by Ami McKay (Kindle Purchase)
Dating the Undead by Juliet Lyons (Kindle Freebie)
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor (Kindle Purchase)
Shelly Laurenston Bundle (Kindle Purchase)

I have no shame.  I think I like collecting books as much as I like reading them.  I have no idea when I will even be able to work these beauties into my reading schedule but I am happy to have them all waiting for me.  I can't resist a good sale and spent $2.99 or less on each of these books!

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  4. So sorry to hear about your daughter's boyfriend's father. It's sad to lose a parent so young. Goodreads wins always feel so good. I won one in September, but didn't say anything, because I often never receive the books I win. I was pretty excited when it showed up yesterday though. Congrats on the win, and I hope it results in a new author for your "to-read" list.

    1. It is really hard to lose a parent as a young person. I was 20 and my sister was 17 when my father died and this brought back a lot of memories for me.

      Yay for book wins!

    1. It has been a lot for these young kids to deal with but they have a lot of support.

    Enjoy those reads!

  9. I am so sorry about your daughter's boyfriend's father. I know that can't be easy for the family, especially coming out of the blue like that.

I hope you enjoy your new books! I have been curious about Harris's new series (does it still count as new? It is to me!). I have Akata Witch on my shelf and keep eyeing it. I may have to read it soon.

I hope you have a good week, Carole.

    1. It was a real shock.

I still think of the Harris series as new. I have heard great things about Akata Witch so I had to add it. Hopefully, I can get to it soonish.

  10. I think you made a very good point. Sometimes I feel as if I enjoy buying the books more than sitting down to read them. I do feel like I'm collecting at times. Sorry to hear your terrible news. The poor boy must be in pieces.

  15. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's boyfriend's father. I can't imagine losing a parent that young. My dad's father died when my dad was 18 and I think my dad really regrets not getting to know him as an adult. It's such a different relationship. Good for you for having no shame! It's such fun to get books! I know I should have more book-free weeks than not but I can't resist a pretty. I hope this week is better for you!

  16. Oh no :( I feel terrible for your sister's boyfriend and I hope he is doing alright... sudden deaths are especially a shock and that makes them all the more heartbreaking.

There are some things that take a backseat when such a thing happens.
